Goodbye winter!

Today is 1st of March, outside temperature reaching +18 degrees Celsius, bird songs fill the air all over the places and migratory birds are on the way to the breeding grounds.

Despite the fact that Spring is in our doorstep I would like to speak and share images from the past winter here in Transylvania. We had one of the nicest winter in the last 10-15 years with plenty of snow since December and freezing cold, even below -30 Celsius in January and quite regularly below -20 Celsius. Lakes, rivers were covered with thick ice all over the Carpathians and even at the moment lots of lakes are still ice covered.

In such a harsh winter we did feed birds in 2-3 places in the Harghita Mountains. These places became popular quite quickly for many birds like Great Tit, Blue-, Coal-, Crested-, Willow-, Marsh Tit, Siskin, Brambling, Chaffinch, Bullfinch, Great Spotted-, Green-, Middle Spotted Woodpecker, Jay and even Roe Deers visited the places for sunflower seeds.

First Brown Bears were seen in February but as soon as the snow start melting in the higher elevation and the vegetation will start growing again Carpathian Brown Bears will be more often visible in front of our hides too.
